The story goes: at birth we have two bodies. One is sheathed in skin and bone, sifted through sunlight and fog. A bag of waters, heart a little boat. The other, real as shadow, shimmers like a trout delving a mountain lake. The one that got away, rippling my reflection. David Gravender Sky Buttons High clouds cover the sun, shade it mother-of-pearl the size of a button. I want to reach up, turn off translucency, return the heavens to azure. Clear nights, I've seen a full moon unbutton the sky's cloak, reveal stars that glisten like silver sequins on a black gown. Nancy Dahlberg Rollin' on poems |
