As much as I would have liked to go, I chose not to go to Africa for the total solar eclipse in June (of 2001, which I watched on a webcast). Too expensive and impractical to go for one week.

HOWEVER, there will be another total solar eclipse above the Mother Continent on 29 March 2006. Maximum duration of totality will occur near the middle of the Sahara Desert in southern Libya (23 deg 20.2 min N, 16 deg 53.6 min E at 10:12 UT).

Found more data for the event on March 29 2006... while I still want to be in Africa (after the moonshadow makes landfall in Ghana, or perhaps while standing in the Sahara Desert), there is this map that shows the circumstances in central Turkey. Click on the map contained in that link and bear witness to the power of CalSKY.
